ABOUT CLEANER CAMPUS

Cleaner Campus is a system that aims to support University of Washington custodial staff with their work. Cleaner Campus has two major components: a wearable for custodians and a website for custodial supervisors. Both of these components are also working in conjunction with several smart objects to create an internet of things system.

The University of Washington custodial staff is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the campus. Some of their day-to-day tasks include taking out the trash, vacuuming the floors, and cleaning the restrooms. These tasks can be difficult, especially when it gets busier during the year.

Over the course of ten weeks, our team designed Cleaner Campus to help custodians reduce the burden of their work load and help custodial supervisors manage custodian tasks. This project was completed as a part of Introduction to User-Centered Design, an upper-level Human Centered Design & Engineering course, in Autumn 2017 at the University of Washington.
