An Information Architecture (IA) diagram focuses on the structure and organization of the product. Once we had the design requirements and an idea of what we wanted our Internet of Things system to do, we were able to lay out the pathways that users would go through when using the wearable and the website. Through this diagram, we were able to layout the hierarchy, relationships, and the process in our system.

 

The goal was not to fit every little detail onto the IA but to show the “location” of where each interaction occurred within our devices. The IA diagram visualized the flow of information within our system and helped our team have a clear, concise understanding of that flow at a generalized level. The buttons, affordances, and content of our devices were later detailed in our paper prototypes.
